Structural Associates, a custom builder located in Aspen, Snowmass, Vail, and Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is putting the finishing touches on what has been a special build for this accomplished company. The evolution of this project is a pure and organic strand woven into the larger captivating story of a famous small mountain town: Aspen, Colorado.
In 1970 local Aspen pioneering developer Nick Coates made his first trip to see a 2.5 acre parcel on the Roaring Fork River near the small community of farmers and ranchers known as Woody Creek. Formerly owned by Doc Henry, Aspen’s first dentist, it was love at first sight and Coates bought the property immediately. In the early 1980s he purchased the adjacent 2.5 acre parcel, creating the current estate now at five full acres. Sitting on a broad river bench just minutes away from downtown Aspen, the grounds feature an elegantly landscaped yard with a 1/3 acre pond, a bridge, a waterfall and over 560 feet of Roaring Fork River frontage.
“We are building two riverfront homes here,” said Kim Coates, Nick’s daughter, “and I am thrilled that we picked Structural Associates to do our job. These guys are responsive and patient, and they consistently show amazing attention to detail.” The contemporary main residence is four bedroom suites with a design that emphasizes the special connection to the river. Nearby is the intimately scaled rustic-style fishing cabin with three master suites. “This is a multi-generational retreat where families can gather to fully enjoy the diverse Colorado experience,” Kim explained.
The creation of the extensive infrastructure necessary to improve the Coates property, now known as Waterstone Way, combined with the high levels of craftsmanship expected for a project of this caliber, has allowed Structural Associates to display the broad abilities of their long-tenured team members. “It has been my distinct pleasure to have been part of the Structural Associates team which recently completed the Waterstone Way project in Woody Creek. Building two custom-designed luxury homes on five acres adjacent to the beautiful Roaring Fork River was a rewarding experience and one for which I will always be grateful,” said Maurice Gillming, Project Superintendent and Structural Associates team member for over eighteen years. While Waterstone Way was a demanding project that required an expanded and multifaceted approach, the ability to meet these demands fell well within the capabilities of SA and was not dissimilar to other successful projects that SA has delivered.
